Welcome to the 2014-2015 Hearts of Fire Year!
Hearts of Fire is the 7th and 8th grade Religious Education program offered by Church of the Holy Family. It is a joint effort between Religious Education and Youth Ministry. Youth are required to fulfill their commitments to the Religious Education program and have the opportunity to participate in Youth Ministry events, service and activities as they wish.
Hearts of Fire was founded in 2006 as an answer to parents asking “How Can We Keep Our Youth Involved After Confirmation?” Hearts of Fire combines hands on experiences and opportunities with real faith questions and challenges while providing a safe and comfortable place where our young church is encouraged to grow their own faith knowledge and seek answers to their faith questions. All confirmation candidates commit to the 2 year Hearts of Fire program with their family support and acknowledgement before being officially accepted as Confirmation Candidates.
We know the busy times of family schedules and try our best to accommodate the demands of our young church and their families. Traditionally, students meet during the school year for roughly 2 hours each week at Hearts of Fire Wednesday Night Sessions. Weekly sessions include prayer, music, discussion, hands on activities and or service. A schedule is available with dates for the 2014-2015 school year. If Wednesday Sessions do not meet a families schedule then there are various other options available so that the youth can fulfill their commitment and take part in the Hearts of Fire program. 2 Sessions are offered during the Summer Religious Education Session Weeks, a home school program is available which is supplied by the Hearts Team and led by the parents and a 1 once a month family led program called Nazareth is also available and organized thru the Religious Education Office.
Our Wednesday sessions are hosted by a team of dedicated and trained volunteers who have a love for our faith and a calling to work with our young church. The Hearts Lead Team meets year round to train and discuss the program and have all been Safe Environment Cleared thru the Diocese of Camden.
This year at our Wednesday Night sessions we will be using bibles each night. We will have bibles on site for our students to borrow, but if you would like your youth to have their own Teen Catholic Bible to use and keep we will have them available for purchase for $12 at the start of each Wednesday session. Opportunities are available outside of Hearts of Fire Sessions for continued service and parish involvement if youth are interested. A monthly Youth Ministry Calendar is distributed to all youth in the 5th-12th age range via email and hardcopy. Social media is also used to convey youth ministry events and activities
